Three people were injured when a 70-foot charter sailboat (Neptunes Car) collided with a 22-foot motor boat about a mile off of Alki Point around 3 p.m. Monday. Coast Guard and Seattle police boats responded to the scene. Two passengers of the sailboat as well as the operator of the runabout were taken to West Seattle to a waiting emergency medical crew for minor injuries.
Mark your calendars for the Octoberfest Regatta and yearly Awards Banquet. Saturday, October 18th we'll have some fun races on the bay, followed by a world-famous Pat Barrett pig roast and awards at the clubhouse. We'll be awarding the Boat of the Year, the first ever Girts Rekevics Foulweather Race trophy, rejoice at the return of the Kelly O'Neill memorial team trophy, and award trophies for the year (good ones! don't miss out!) Whether you like the racing, the food, the revelry and trophies, come join your friends for a day of fun!

As a quick reminder - the September NW Rigging Fun Series races start at 6:00pm (not at 6:30pm as before). This last week many people were late to the start line, in fact one boat was still at the dock at their five minute warning...
Grafix led the charge and the rest of the AYC boats took home nearly all of the silverware at the 2008 PITCH regatta in Bellingham last weekend. Grafix was the overall winner and CAt Sass and Lowly Worm pitched in to bring the Kelly O'neill trophy(best yacht club trophy) back home to AYC. Son of Raven was second, Kinetic Ki third, Crazy Ivan 1st(flew the wrong burgee), Handyman 2nd , Syndicat third. Light winds and tricky currents made every race a challenge. Don't forget Wednesday night starts @ 6 not 6:30 next 4 Wednesdays listen to VHF 72 for details!!!!

The new BMW/Oracle trimaran goes sailing today in Rosario Strait - it is hard not to be impressed by the sight of this monster. From a distance it is hard to gauge its scale, but when it comes near it makes everything else look tiny...
Despite its impressive size, this picture shows how they were actually sailing - VERY CAREFULLY. The isolated steering station seems a bit different... Can't wait to see what it will do when they really push it!

In case you missed it - this last Wednesday night the racers were surprised to see this funny looking boat zipping around at 20+ knots on foils - a foiling moth! Not sure what its PHRF rating is, but it sure looks like fun (albeit a cold ride on a windy night).
