Monthly Meetings
AYC has chosen the board to conduct the majority of our business. The board seeks guidance from the membership during our monthly meetings which are held the second Friday of most months. A dinner, usually catered, is provided for all those making prior reservations. We attempt to make our monthly membership meetings as interesting as possible and include special speakers.
In 2008, February’s speaker was Captain Richard Rodriguez of Vessel Assist explaining many of the hazards from which he has rescued boaters. March found Kevin Dolan telling the story of how he and the owner of Passing Wind, a Nauticat 36, were overcome in a violent storm, and were rescued by the USCG over 50nm off Fort Bragg, CA last October. April’s special speakers were from Core Builders, the builders of the BMW/Oracle America’s cup boats.
We anticipate another round of speakers from Core Builders at a special meeting on May 1. Our May program will be presented by Carl Bergan and Linda Page. They will gear their program toward those who wish to cruise New Zealand. Contact our Vice Commodore with ideas for more membership meeting topics. AYC holds our monthly membership meeting on the Second Friday of each month with the exceptions of January, July, and Aug. January is the month of our commodore’s ball, and our members prefer to be out enjoying the waters and harbors with their boats, rather than attending meetings during July and August.
