Shakedown Cruise
April 11-13, 2008
Start your engines and head out for Oak Harbor on April 11-13 for this season's first cruise.
Make your own reservations with the marina at 679-2628. Land cruisers are welcome too. Join the Oak Harbor Yacht Club for burgers on Friday evening. They have the burgers for $4 (cook your own to order on their big grill) and everyone brings a dish to share. The clubhouse opens at 4:00, social hour begins at 5:00, and burgers by 6:00. On Saturday April 12, AYC is inviting the OHYC members to join them for appetizers on the dock, weather permitting, or in the clubhouse if it's not so kind. OHYC will bring appetizers to share also.
If you haven't been to Oak Harbor lately, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much it has changed. It's a nice walk into the spiffed-up Old Town, and there are new restaurants to enjoy. Jazzbones has an extensive menu, a good sushi chef, and a bar. Sweet Rice Thai is so new we have yet to try it. Bay City Bistro is nice, and if you're looking for gourmet fare, try Fraser's Hideaway one block up from Pioneer on Dock Street. Below Fraser's is Nibbles, with wonderful baked goodies, and hand made chocolates-all in nibble sizes so you don't feel guilty. Anacortes' own Island Café has a place in Old Town mall. There are lots of nice shops-Fox Pointe, Brenda's Front Porch (unfortunately that's a different Brenda), Casual House, and many more.
On Saturday, free bus service is available on request by calling 360-678-7771, or 1-800-240-8747 before the half hour. The bus will arrive at the marina about 5-10 minutes after the half hour. No bus service on Sunday.
Call or write us if you have questions, and to RSVP. We'd like to give OHYC a heads up on how many hamburger eaters we have. Hope to see you there! Bill and Brenda Cheaqui, Cruise Captains 360.240.9483 or cheaquibz2@comcast.net.
